Prostate Cancer
Prostate cancer is a condition in which cells in the prostate, a small walnut-shaped gland that produces seminal fluid, undergo abnormal growth. The prostate is located below the bladder and surrounds the urethra, the tube through which urine and semen exit the body.
Early-stage prostate cancer may not cause noticeable symptoms, emphasizing the importance of regular check-ups, particularly for men over the age of 50. Some symptoms may include difficulty urinating, a weak or interrupted urine flow, blood in the urine or semen, and discomfort in the pelvic area.
Risk factors for prostate cancer include age, family history, and race, with African American men being at a higher risk. It’s essential for individuals to discuss their risk factors with healthcare providers and make informed decisions about screening.
