Dr. Wei Phin Tan

Dr. Wei Phin Tan, MD, MHS is an assistant professor of urology and a urologic oncologist at Tisch Hospital, New York University Langone Health in New York City . He completed his urology residency at Rush University Medical Center and his urologic oncology fellowship at Duke University. He also completed a Masters of Health Science at Duke University.

Dr Tan’s research interest focuses on malignancies of the genitourinary system, with a particular emphasis on (i) prostate cancer diagnostics, (ii) focal therapy for prostate cancer and (iii) robotic assisted surgery (prostatectomies, nephrectomies, partial nephrectomies, cystectomies with intracorporeal reservoirs, retroperitoneal lymph node dissection).

Dr Tan has performed hundreds of transperineal procedures, including more than 200 transperineal MRI/US guided fusion biopsy under local anesthesia in 2023. He also regularly places fiducial markers and SpaceOARs/Barrigel under local anesthesia in the office. He also customizes prostate cancer treatment by performing focal therapy using cryoablation and high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) and patient directed prostatectomies.

Dr Tan has published more than 80 peer reviewed publications and delivered more than 100 international/national presentations to date. He was also previously funded by the Ruth L. Kirschstein National Research Service Award (NRSA) Grant from the National Cancer Institute (NCI).
